Dual Enrollment with Mt. SAC

Dual Enrollment provides Garey HS students the opportunity to take a college level English courses at Garey High School for free.  Students earn both high school and college credit. The instructor is an adjunct professor with Mt. San Antonio college and a teacher at Garey HS. While students take the course on the Garey HS campus, they are treated as college students and the course will post on to a college transcript.

Qualifying students take English IA the first semester and English IC second semester.

 

ENGL 1A Freshman Composition 4 Units (Degree Applicable, CSU, UC) 10 High School Credits with honors designation

Lecture: 72 hours

 

Develops effective expository writing skills and investigates the principles and methods of composition as applied to the research process and the writing of essays. Emphasizes critical reading of academic material.

 

ENGL 1C Critical Thinking and Writing 4 Units (Degree Applicable, CSU, UC) 10 High School Credits with honors designation

Lecture: 72 hours

 

Develops critical thinking, reading, and writing skills beyond the level achieved in ENGL 1A. Increases the student's capacity for logical analysis and argumentative writing.
