Optional Insurance for Chromebooks

Claim Process

For Damage: Take the Chromebook to the library and receive a loaner, while the Chromebook is being repaired.

For Loss/Theft: File a police report. Then submit a printed or electronic version of the report and number to your school. A claim will be filed by the District and the Chromebook will be replaced.

1:1 Chromebook Repair/Replacement Program

As part of the 1:1 Chromebook program in PUSD, the District will internally repair and manage the Chromebooks. Under this policy, a Chromebook or any of its accessories that are lost (whereabouts unknown) or damaged, is the responsibility of the student and parents/guardians. The District and Optional Insurance Provider will require that a police report be submitted in cases of theft. Fraudulent reporting of theft will be turned over to the local authorities for prosecution. A student making a false report will also be subject to disciplinary action as outlined by the school discipline code.

Students and parents/guardians will be charged for damages (see costs on flyer). All charges will be placed on the student’s library account. The student’s grades, diploma or transcript may be withheld if lost or damaged materials are not reimbursed (California Education Code 48904.3; Board Policy 6161.2 and Administrative Regulation 6161.2). If repair or replacement is needed due to loss or damage, the school will provide a loaner Chromebook. The loaner Chromebook may not be identical to the damaged Chromebook.

Costs for lost or damaged Chromebooks will be based on damage or loss assessment. If a lost Chromebook is found in good condition, the ‘loss fee’ will be fully refunded or the charge removed from the student’s account in the library checkout system. If a student withdraws from Pomona Unified School District and then re-enrolls, any documented incidents will remain on file. If a student continues to damage their issued Chromebook, then their take-home privileges can be revoked by the school administration.

Parents/guardians are able to ‘opt in’ to purchase device insurance from School Device Coverage(SDC). A parent/guardian would register for the program, and pay the annual premium directly to the insurance company within 30 days of the student checking out the Chromebook or the first day of school. Coverage only applies after the annual premium has been paid in full.

NOTE: Intentional damage is not covered
NOTE: Loss that leads to theft (e.g. student accidentally leaves the Chromebook on a city bus, and the Chromebook is taken by someone and not returned by the bus company)
NOTE: Unexplained loss of Chromebook or accessories is not covered
